Updates from the Capitol

SB 532 (Fasano), a measure that heightens penalties for crimes committed by elected officials who use their public office in committing the crime, was defeated in the Senate Rules Committee.

SB 650 (Jones), which requires that code enforcement officers shall determine code violators in mobile home parks, passed the Senate Rules Committee.

SB 890 (Dean), dealing with 911 call operators, was amended with the language that the FLC supports and passed the Senate Community Affairs Committee. The amendment tasks Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) with creating a 40-hour course for Law Enforcement Officers to get certification. 32 hours online and eight hours in a classroom. This would be much better than the 232 hours that would be required for new hires after April 1, 2012.
