Information Technology Director – City of Gainesville

(pop. 124,491) The City of Gainesville is seeking an information technology director to plan and administer the programs and activities of the Information Technology Department supporting general government functions. The director will oversee a staff of 15 and administer a $2.3-million budget. The ideal candidate must have experience in information services and demonstrate the ability to direct the overall activities of employees engaged in all information-technology functions. To be considered for the information technology director position, you must have graduated from an accredited four-year college with major course work in computer science, business or public administration, or related subject, and have six years of progressively responsible professional experience in information services including two years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience, exclusive of the education requirement, that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. AA/EOC/DFWP. Another academic year, another new beginning

Students have returned to school all over the state; most districts’ classes are already in full swing. But colleges follow a somewhat different pattern, and many, like mine, are just beginning today.

One of my nieces happily reported her return to her campus on Facebook™, her short post full of youthful enthusiasm and joy. On the campus of the University of Tampa, where I teach, students began wandering the campus (initially, many of them with their parents) on Tuesday last week. By Thursday, there wasn’t a parking space to be had.
