Food Recycling and Composting Workshop

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, in association with the Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc., will hold a one-day educational workshop on food recycling and composting on December 9 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando. Workshop participants will learn the most recent developments and projects for managing food residuals, including technologies, state composting regulations and ongoing research. As reality continues to pipe the tune

There was relatively good economic news out of Washington this week, as the national unemployment rate dipped back into single digits after having crossed into double digits in December. I say “relatively” because an unemployment rate of 9.7 percent is not good news... it’s just better than December, and better than many economists had expected.

The bad news, of course, is that there are still lots of unemployed folks, especially in states like ours that have real estate- and tourism-dependent economies. Even if the national employment picture really is brightening, it will be some time before Florida shares that warm glow.
