Through the League’s leadership, an inclusive council process develops an annual legislative action agenda of legislative priorities. The Municipal Home Rule Powers Act and the Florida Constitution provide that cities in Florida have the authority to govern themselves locally, independent of state control. Preserving Home Rule, educating citizens on this valuable right, and maintaining a focus on those issues that directly affect self-governance, service delivery and the quality of life of each municipality are essential goals of the Florida League of Cities.
