Broadband Infrastructure Grant Deadlines Extended

NTIA and RUS will grant a limited extension of time to file infrastructure applications in the second funding round. National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) – BTOP Grants Applicants for BTOP Comprehensive Community Infrastructure projects will have until March 26th to file their applications to NTIA. Public Computer Centers and Sustainable Broadband Adoption applications remain due on March 15th.

Survey: Proposed Senate Legislation Regarding Recycling

The Florida Senate is considering legislation aimed at increasing recycling in Florida. As part of this legislative proposal, there is discussion regarding possible changes to the definition of Construction and Demolition Debris materials (“C & D”). The League is concerned the proposed changes may impact municipal solid waste franchise agreements or contracts.

Round 2 Stimulus Broadband Grants - Applications Due March 15, 2010

Last month, FLC sent an alert announcing Round 2 of the Broadband Grants which are due March 15, 2010. The criteria for Round 2 has changed from Round 1, which may provide a better opportunity for cities with a strong application that promotes broadband deployment and/or expands public access to broadband service, education, access, training, etc.

The Florida Energy and Climate Commission (FECC) announced it will distribute $18.6 million for cities and counties that did not receive direct funding from the Department of Energy for Energy Efficient and Conservation Block Grants.
